The Red Prince Steven Gerrard vs the Dark Lord Jose Mourinho
The Red Prince paced his chamber late into the night trying to decide what to do about the Dark Lord.
They’d met the previous evening and the Red Prince had been offered untold wealth to abandon his own kingdom in the far north and move down to the capital to serve under the foreign usurper.
Pushing vast bags of cash under his nose, the Dark Lord had promised him all the titles and trophies that eluded them in the icy north. In the Game of EPL Thrones, he could be king at last.
But the Prince felt conflicted. He loved the people up by the wall and didn’t want to sell his castle in the Wirral for a tiny apartment off the Kings Road. How could he be sure his swashbuckling exploits would be as appreciated in The Shed as they were at Anfield?
Finally, he summoned the courage to tell the Dark Lord that his heart was with the Reds and not the Blues.
He would be the “greatest enemy” to the Dark Lord in the decade that followed but his quest for cups became increasingly hard as the Blues cemented their alliances in the capital.
There would be two more offers from the Dark Lord as he plundered new treasures in Italy and Spain but each time he was repelled. Liverpool was where his heart lay, not Madrid or Milan.
It took an almighty effort from the Prince in 2014 to help bring his beloved Red Army achingly close to challenging the old guard in the capital and the new threat from north of the wall at the Etihad Stadium.
Then came The Great Slip and the Sale of Suarez and any hope of a Red title were lost forever.
With his advancing age, the Red Prince ventured further back into defense and the thrills and excitement of his offensive forays became a distant memory. His trophy days were over; the best he could hope for was the tip of a diamond.
But the Dark Lord never forgot. He showered the Red Prince with compliments even as he plotted his downfall. At their final meeting on Sunday, the Dark Lord applauded the Red Prince off the battlefield knowing that victory was his. No amount of dragons could help the prince of the people now. The games of thrones was over and the Dark Lord had won again.
The Red Prince would return to his home ground for one last, lingering farewell next weekend.
He will tap his badge and his heart one more time and insist that his loyalty was worth all the disappointments...and then he’s off to Hollywood!
