The Top Ten C-USA Conference Games Of 2013
The new-look Conference USA sits well with parity spread across the conference and makes for more meaningful division showdowns in 2013. Almost every C-USA team will battle week in and week out for bowl eligibility and positioning. Here's a look at 10 conference games that are must see during the 2013 C-USA season:
Sept. 12: Tulane at Louisiana Tech — Thursday night football comes to Ruston and showcases the Louisiana rivalry. Tulane leads the all-time series 8-0.
Sept. 21: UTSA at UTEP — Larry Coker takes his Road Runners to the Sun Bowl for a new Texas rivalry. This is literally a new rivalry as this is the first-ever meeting between the two Texas schools.
Oct. 31: Rice at North Texas — Thursday night football and Halloween night does a Texas two-step on these two north Texas teams. Rice leads the overall series two games to one.
Nov. 2: ECU at FIU — Crucial game for the C-USA East Division crown. This is the first-ever meeting between the two football programs.
Nov. 2: MTSU at UAB — The new Battle of the Bones, if you will. Memphis is gone, but the Blazers try and replace one rivalry with another. The Blazers lead the all-time series 2-1.
Nov. 9: Tulsa at ECU — The two potential divisional favorites square off in maybe the biggest regular season conference game of the year. This series is dead-locked at five games apiece.
Nov. 23: Marshall at FIU — Important game for both schools trying to stay in the C-USA East race. The Thundering Herd lead the series 1-0.
Nov. 29: ECU at Marshall — Marshall could potentially make this an enormous game — and they host it. This depends on how ECU fairs against Tulsa and FIU, as well as how Marshall fairs at FIU and at Tulsa. Marshall has to be 5-0 in league play going into the last three games (Tulsa, FIU and ECU). The Pirates have had success in the past against Marshall with a 10-4 series edge.
Nov. 29: FIU at FAU — The Shula Bowl continues in a new conference, this year in Boca Raton. What better way to spend Black Friday overlooking the Atlantic Ocean on a warm winter South Florida day for the 12th edition of the Shula Bowl? FAU leads the series 8-3.
Nov. 30: Southern Miss at UAB — MTSU and UAB can try to replace the heated rivalry between then Memphis and UAB, but Southern Miss and UAB will always be big. This conference game finale could have bowl-game implications. Southern Miss leads the all-time series 9-4.
