Bio

Thomas Müller was born in Weilheim, West Germany on 13 September 1989. Primarily an attacking midfielder, he has great versatility, which has allowed him to play centrally, or on either wing. On occasion, he has also been deployed in a traditional centre forward role. Known for his off-the-ball movement, ability to find space in the opposition box and his end product, he is a prolific goalscorer and creator of chances for teammates.

A product of the Bayern Munich youth academy, which he joined at the age of ten, Müller worked his way through the ranks and made his debut for the club's reserve team early in 2008. He became a key player for Bayern Munich II during the 2008–09 season and manager Jürgen Klinsmann handed Müller occasional opportunities to play for the first team. In February 2009, he signed a professional contract with the senior team.

The 2009-10 season, under manager Louis van Gaal, marked his true breakthrough into the first team, as he made a total of 52 appearances in all competitions, scoring 19 goals along the way, as Bayern won the Bundesliga title and the DFB-Pokal. His performances that year earned him the World Soccer Young Player of the Year Award and the Bravo Award. Over the course of the 2012-13 campaign, he made his greatest individual contribution, scoring 23 goals in 47 appearances as Bayern were able to win the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and UEFA Champions League treble. Later in 2013, the team went on to claim the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.

At international level, Müller represented Germany at various youth levels before making his debut for the senior national team in 2010. He went on to play a significant role in his country's 2010 FIFA World Cup campaign, finishing as the tournament's Golden Boot winner and being named as the World Cup's Best Young Player. He has since become a regular starter for the national side.
