Titans 'Super Bowl Contenders' With Right Quarterback

Created on Apr. 03, 2014 12:01 PM EST

Todd McShay breaks down the needs of every team and their status in the NFL, but when he got to the Titans he sparked a little bit of controversy.

McShay said on television that if the Titans had a legitimate threat at quarterback that they are a legitimate Super Bowl contender.

Go ahead and double take because I did the same thing.

McShay’s actual quote is as follows:

“If you put Andrew Luck with this team, you’d be talking about a potential Super Bowl team.”

Now, many teams would be potential Super Bowl contenders with Andrew Luck throwing the ball, but the fact McShay used the Titans has to be encouraging to the fan base. McShay has a knack for saying some controversial things during the draft process, but this is the first time he has really stepped out of his element and into actual team breakdowns.

He went on to compare the 2014 Titans to the Seahawks in the sense they built their line up and added playmakers until they found the quarterback that could take them to the next level. In this case, Seattle found Russel Wilson and the Titans are in quarterback limbo with Jake Locker.

We'll see what the Titans do in the draft and I expect them to take a quarterback late. After Locker, the options of Charlie Whithurst, Tyler Wilson and Rusty Smith are not ideal at all.

Football.com's own draft guru David Seigerman currently has the Titans going safety in the first round, with Louisville safety Calvin Pryor the prime target. Seigerman doesn't see the Titans' need for quarterback as dire as McShay, and he has them passing on both Johnny Manziel and Derek Carr. You can view Seigerman's latest mock draft here!
