5. 2. Matt Cassel, Vikings
During the first game of the 2008 season, New England Patriots fans everywhere feared all was lost when Pro Bowl QB Tom Brady was taken off the field after suffering a knee injury against the Kansas City Chiefs. However, Matt Cassel stepped in and led the team to an 11-5 record. The following year, he was traded to those same Chiefs to become their new starter. After a very impressive 2010 season that saw Cassel toss 27 scores with just seven interceptions, injuries and a deteriorating locker room led to his release in 2013.
Cassel signed with the Vikings later that same day. He has already shown his value in Minnesota, starting a game against the Pittsburgh Steelers for the injured Christian Ponder in which he found the end zone twice in a 34-27 win. With the offensive playmakers the Vikings have, Cassel may even take over the starting role before too much longer.
