News has broke from the Great White North showing that Vancouver Whitecaps FC have been busy this transfer window. The club announced the additions of Uruguayan midfielders/strikers Sebastian Fernandez and Nicolas Mezquida. Per team and league policy, terms of the deal were not announced. What is known is that Fernandez is on a one year loan with an option to transfer, while Mezquida was acquired via transfer. Both players came over from Boston River in the Uruguayan Premier League.
“Sebastian and Nicholas are exciting young attacking players with a lot of potential,” said Whitecaps FC head coach Carl Robinson. “Both players like to play with the ball on the on the ground and are not afraid to attack defenders one-on-one with pace.”
Both men bring a lot of youth and energy to the Whitecaps. I like the pick ups and really think they will pose problems to opposing MLS teams in the future. We can judge by the pickups that the Whitecaps felt a definite need to bolster their attack, and was able to do so from somewhere other than North America.
