Villas-Boas: Bale will stay at Tottenham

Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas have moved to end speculation that Gareth Bale will join Real Madrid in the off-season.

The La Liga outfit have been vocal in their admiration of the Welshman, with club ambassador Zinedine Zidane and president Florentino Perez both speaking about a potential move for the Welsh star.

The two clubs have a partnership, which was announced following the sale of Croatian Luka Modric to the Bernabeu side in August 2012.

But Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy insisted Bale would not leave White Hart Lane this season, and Villas-Boas does not believe he will change that stance.

"We have the pledge of the chairman that Bale is not going to leave the club," the Portuguese told Marca.

The former Chelsea manager will be looking to improve the playing squad this season, after Tottenham narrowly missed out on a UEFA Champions League spot last season, finishing fifth in the Premier League.

He will hope Franco Baldini's appointment as director of football will speed up the pursuit of new recruits, having publicly requested that such a person be appointed .
