Von Miller plays outside linebacker for the Denver Broncos. He captured NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year honors in 2011 and has made two All-NFL Defensive teams in three seasons with the Broncos.
Early Years & College
Miller was born in Dallas, TX on March 26, 1989 and played high school football for the DeSoto Eagles. As a senior at DeSoto, he was named District 8-5A Defensive MVP after recording 76 tackles, 6.0 sacks, and 14 tackles for a loss. Following graduation, he enrolled at Texas A&M University and was named to the All-Big 12 Freshman team in 2007.
Miller broke out during his junior year in 2009, leading the nation with 17 sacks while playing both defensive end and outside linebacker for the Aggies. His outstanding production led to First-Team All-Big 12 honors and he was named a First-Team All-American by The Sporting News and Sports Illustrated. An ankle injury hampered his production as a senior in 2010, but he still won the Butkus Award as the nation’s top linebacker and once again garnered All-Big 12 honors.
Miller graduated from Texas A&M and attended the Senior Bowl, earning Defensive MVP honors. After blowing away scouts with strong workouts at the NFL Combine and his pro day, the Denver Broncos selected Miller with the 2nd overall pick of the 2011 NFL Draft. As a rookie, he lived up to his draft status, recording 11.5 sacks en route to being named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and making his first Pro Bowl. He followed up his rookie campaign by breaking Denver’s franchise record with 18.5 sacks and was named First-Team All-Pro in 2012.
Entering his third season, the NFL suspended Miller for six games due to an alleged attempt to cheat a league-mandated drug test. He appealed, but the suspension stood at six games and he did not return until October 20, 2013. He made 27 tackles and 5.0 sacks in nine games before suffering a season-ending ACL tear against the Houston Texans on December 22, 2013.
