Washington Loses Phillip Thomas To Lisfranc Injury
By Allen Kim
The Washington Redskins will have to wait another year before they see what rookie S Phillip Thomas can do playing meaningful reps in the NFL. According to Mark Maske of the Washington Post, Thomas is going to miss the entire 2013 NFL season after suffering a lisfranc injury in his left foot.
Thomas is set to undergo surgery, and he’s expected to be sidelined for the next four to five months. The team is going to place him on injured reserve, and we’ll get a better idea of how this will impact their rotation as the next three preseason games unfold.
Thomas was competing for the starting job opposite fellow rookie Bacarri Rambo, and chances are the ‘Skins will stick with Brandon Meriweather moving forward. The secondary — and the safety positions in particular — was already an area of concern for Washington, and the unit only becomes more suspect after this loss.
