Wes Lunt is a quarterback for the University of Illinois Fighting Illini of the Big Ten Conference. He announced his transfer from Oklahoma State University to Illinois on June 17, 2013. Lunt’s brother Will was a quarterback at Western Illinois University from 2009-2012.
Lunt led Rochester High School in the state of Illinois to back-to-back 4A state titles in 2010 and 2011. Rivals ranked Lunt as the number-seven quarterback in the country coming out of high school and ranked him as a four-star recruit. He totaled more than 7,000 passing yards, tossed 65 touchdowns and was picked off only eight times during his two years starting for Rochester.
Lunt was an early-enrollee with Oklahoma State in the spring of 2012 and earned the starting job as a true freshman coming out of camp. The 6-5 gunslinger became the first true freshman to start the season opener for the Cowboys since 1950. While injuries slowed him down, he made five starts overall and completed more than 61 percent of his passes while throwing for 1,108 yards and six touchdowns. He was picked off seven times.
Lunt threw for more than 400 yards against Arizona on the road and tossed four touchdowns as well. He sat out the 2013 season after transferring to the University of Illinois. Lunt is the favorite to start at quarterback for the Illini in 2014.
