A second-team all-Mountain West performer in 2013, Vigil is one of the Utah State Aggies best linebackers. Versatile and experienced, Vigil has worked hard to understand the defense and serves as a coach on the field. He also earned second-team honors in 2012 as a member of the WAC. He ranks 28th all-time in tackles with 233, including 124 in 2013 and has 11 career double-digit tackle games. His work ethic and ability to stop the run and pressure the passer are invaluable to a Utah State defense that could be very good in 2014.
Vigil was a two-time all-state and all-region honoree at Clearfield High School in Clearfield, Utah where he played both wide receiver and safety. As a senior he tallied 59 tackles, 3.5 sacks and one interception on defense while leading the team with 32 receptions for 355 yards and one touchdown. He was also a second-team all-region selection in wrestling as well as being an honor roll student.
After redshirting as a true freshman in 2011, he played in four games as a redshirt freshman in 2012 before injury put him out for the season. He did record four tackles overall. In 2012, he started all 13 games and was an all-conference selection in the WAC, recording 105 tackles and led the team with 9.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks. In 2013, Vigil started all 14 games and had 124 tackles, 17th best in the nation, and had 12.5 tackles for loss and two sacks. He was named the MWC Defensive Player of the Week in the win over Air Force and had double-digit tackles six times during the season.
