About Boca Juniors

Club Atlético Boca Juniors was founded in April 1905. They are one of Argentina's top clubs, having achieved huge levels of success in domestic football and are also one of the world's most successful team in international competitions. Boca Juniors have an intense rivalry with River Plate and matches between the two teams are known as the Superclásico. It is widely considered to be one of world football's most important derby matches.

Carlos Bianchi, who has had three spells in charge of the club since 1998, is the most successful manager in Boca Juniors' history, surpassing Juan Carlos Lorenzo's achievements during the 1970s. During Bianchi's time in charge, the team have won the Copa Libertadores on three occasions, the Intercontinental Cup twice and Primera División titles four times. Bianchi was named South American Coach of the Year for his achievements with Boca in 1998, 2000, 2001 and 2003.

In total, the club have won the Primera División 30 times; second only to their arch rivals, River Plate. Other major domestic honours include two Copa Argentinas, won in 1969 and 2012. Amongst Boca Junior's major continental and international trophies are six Copa Libertadores titles, three Intercontinental Cups, two Copa Sudamericanas and four Recopa Sudamericanas. Their total haul of international honours is tied with Italian club AC Milan's haul as a world record.

Amongst the most notable footballers to play for Boca Juniors are Roberto Cherro, Francisco Varallo, Silvio Marzolini, Diego Maradona, Gabriel Batistuta and Juan Román Riquelme. Martín Palermo is the team's all-time top goalscorer, having netted 236 goals during his time with the side.

The club have played their home games at the Estadio Alberto J. Armando, popularly referred to as La Bombonera, since its opening in 1941. The venue is well-known for its acoustics, which help to create a spectacular atmosphere. At present, La Bombonera is able to seat a maximum of 49,000 supporters.
