About Reading

Reading Football Club was founded in 1871 and is one of the oldest teams in England however they didn’t join the Football League until 1920. They spent the first 86 years of their professional existence in the lower leagues until promotion was achieved to the Premier League in 2006.

They have never won a major honour however they have won the second tier division twice in 2006 and 2012. The club holds the record for the number of successive league wins at the start of a season with 13 victories in 1986. They also hold the record for most points in a season with 106 during the promotion-winning season of 2006. In the 2011 season the Royals made it to the play-off finals losing to Swansea City however they rebounded the following campaign to secure their return to the Premier League.

They play their home football at the Madejski Stadium, which was built in 1998. Previous to that the home stadium was Elm Park that had been their venue for the preceding 102 years.

The Madejski Stadium has a capacity of 24,161 while the record crowd to date is 24,160 for a match versus Tottenham Hotspur on September 16th 2012.
