Lucas Catterick Returns to School Football After Treatment

A return built on patience

Catterick’s comeback followed an intense period in hospital that included four rounds of chemotherapy and regular lumbar punctures, according to the report. He missed much of the 2024-25 school year, but Korah staff are said to have supported his gradual return.

That patience mattered. Rather than rushing straight back into competition, Catterick was able to reconnect with school, friends and the sport that has been part of his life since childhood.

A goalkeeper back in the team

The report says Catterick resumed football as a goalkeeper for Korah’s junior boys team this spring. The team finished second in the city championship before winning the NOSSA AA division in Sudbury.

Those results provide a clear marker of his return, but the bigger achievement was simply being back among teammates. Catterick reportedly described being separated from his friends as the hardest part of his hospital stay.

Football offered a familiar routine after months dominated by treatment. Basketball and golf have also remained part of his sporting life, giving him more ways to rebuild confidence and fitness.

The next milestone

Catterick is reportedly due to attend follow-up appointments in Sudbury every three months, with occasional visits to Toronto. The report says doctors are encouraged by his prognosis, while the first year remains an important period of monitoring.

For now, the next chapter is about maintaining that balance: school, sport, family and recovery. With the 2026 World Cup ahead, Catterick will have another football occasion to enjoy, but his most meaningful fixture has already been his return to the pitch.
