The report says Pablo Torre missed a penalty in the 25th minute after a handball was called inside the South Carolina area. The attempt went wide of the bottom-left corner, leaving UNCG without the breakthrough its first-half chance offered.
South Carolina then carried the narrow advantage into the interval. With the Gamecocks reportedly leading only 7-4 in shots on target overall, the margin was slim, but the Spartans’ failure to convert their clearest opening proved costly.
The Spartans reportedly took control of possession early in the second half and continued to attack despite falling behind. Trym Linberg tested the goalkeeper shortly after the restart, while Sigurd Eikenes Sæveraas also forced a save.
That momentum became harder to sustain in the 64th minute, when Linberg received a second yellow card. Yet UNCG still finished the half with more attempts, reportedly outshooting South Carolina 8-5 after the interval.
The report says goalkeeper Wilson made seven saves, while the Spartans limited South Carolina to only one shot on target after halftime. Torre, Hernandez and Tiago Campos all had late opportunities, but the equaliser never arrived.
UNCG’s defensive structure kept the contest alive, but the penalty miss and red card left little room for error. The report also says South Carolina scored its fewest goals of the season, underlining how close the Spartans came to taking something from the match.
The next test comes at home against South Florida on 15 September. UNCG will need the same defensive discipline, but sharper finishing, if it is to turn competitive performances into points.
