Illinois Girls Soccer All-Area Team: Defense and Midfield

Defensive foundations

Lincoln-Way Central leads the defensive conversation. The report says goalkeeper Flynn Meyer recorded 16 shutouts while conceding only nine goals in 22 matches, finishing with a 0.45 goals-against average. Defender Taylor Watt added seven goals, giving the sectional champions an attacking outlet from the back.

Marist also placed a premium on organisation. The report says defender Julia Skol helped lead a unit to 13 shutouts and just 16 goals allowed in 22 games. Her defensive player of the year recognition underlines the influence of a player whose value went beyond goals and assists.

Midfielders set the tempo

The strongest teams also received production from central areas. Jules Rafacz gave Lincoln-Way Central 17 goals and nine assists, while Lemont midfielder Gabriela Kuruc delivered 32 goals and eight assists on her way to all-state and conference player of the year honours.

The second team adds more evidence of midfield depth. Mother McAuley defensive midfielder Emily Kovar reportedly supplied 23 assists, while Providence midfielder Alyssa Thulin contributed 10 goals and eight assists.

Forwards bring the headlines

The attacking records remain striking. Beecher senior Grace Durante led the scoring discussion with 62 goals and a reported career total of 201, the third-highest mark in Illinois high school history. Mother McAuley’s Calli Edwards finished with 35 goals this season and a programme-record 114 career goals.

Madison Weil gave Lemont another attacking dimension, combining 25 goals with 26 assists. At Andrew, Emily Crotty set a programme record with 27 goals, added seven assists and tied the school career goals record at 65.

The next Illinois girls soccer season will test whether these defensive leaders, midfield controllers and record-setting forwards can sustain their influence-or create a new generation of all-area standouts.
