Elye Wahi Available for Ivory Coast vs Germany

Investigation follows yellow card

The report says the case centres on a yellow card Wahi received while playing for Nice against Metz during the 2025-26 season, when he was on loan. He was booked in the 35th minute, shortly after committing a foul.

French authorities are reportedly examining whether the caution was deliberately engineered for betting purposes. The report says Wahi was detained on May 29, released after questioning and had not been formally charged. Those are allegations under investigation, not an established finding of wrongdoing.

For Ivory Coast, however, the timing is difficult. Wahi’s tournament involvement began with a start, making the issue impossible to separate entirely from the team’s preparations.

Canada entry remains the next uncertainty

Wahi reportedly travelled to the United States without being blocked because no formal charge had been brought against him. His entry into Canada before the Germany fixture remains unclear.

That distinction matters. A player can remain available for selection while still facing an administrative issue that affects travel, training and matchday planning.

The situation has gained extra attention because Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey reportedly encountered a separate problem entering Canada. The two cases are unrelated, but both underline the practical complications of a tournament staged across multiple countries.

Ivory Coast need clarity quickly

Wahi has made only two appearances for Ivory Coast, yet his starting role against Ecuador gives him immediate relevance in the attack. His international sample remains small, while the investigation creates a distraction around one of the squad’s developing options.

The next test comes against Germany on June 20 in Group E. The key storyline will be whether Wahi clears the travel hurdle, remains in the lineup and can keep the focus on football rather than the allegations surrounding him.
