Arsenal's Attack Plans Stalled by Barcola and Alvarez

Barcola: a decision from Paris

Barcola’s limited run of starts in Paris reportedly encouraged speculation about a possible summer move. Arsenal and other major European clubs, including Liverpool, have been linked with the France international.

However, the key market signal is not a price tag. PSG reportedly regard Barcola as part of their sporting plans rather than an available asset. That leaves Arsenal with little room to negotiate: a larger offer may not matter if the selling club has already decided against opening talks.

The situation also explains why Arsenal’s interest has stalled despite the player’s profile and reported availability concerns earlier in the summer.

Alvarez: a prohibitive clause

The Alvarez pursuit faces a more straightforward obstacle. Atlético Madrid continue to insist that the forward is not for sale, with reports pointing to a €500 million release clause as the only route to an exit.

That figure turns the transfer into a legal mechanism rather than a conventional negotiation. Unless Atlético soften their position or Alvarez pushes for a change, Arsenal would have to consider an enormous outlay for a deal the Spanish club is not actively seeking.

The report also says PSG have set aside interest in Alvarez while prioritising Barcola, removing a potential alternative destination for the Argentine.

Arsenal must widen the search

The twin setbacks leave Arsenal needing a broader plan. Barcola is reportedly blocked by PSG’s stance; Alvarez is effectively protected by the size of his clause. Neither problem can be solved through routine bargaining.

The next storyline is whether Arsenal identify a third attacking target before the window closes, or accept that their preferred options are unavailable and continue with the current forward group.
