Canada Falls 4-3 to Denmark in Final Friendly

Defensive mistakes dominate

Canada appeared to control the early stages after Delaney Pridham opened the scoring, reportedly with her first senior international goal. Olivia Smith then struck the post, but Denmark quickly exposed gaps in possession and transition.

Olivia Holdt levelled with a spectacular long-range finish after a Canadian mistake, before Pernille Harder completed Denmark’s turnaround. Holdt added another after further uncertainty at the back, leaving Canada trailing despite its promising start.

The report attributes the problems to several costly errors involving Julia Grosso, Kadeisha Buchanan and Ashley Lawrence. Denmark, already qualified for the 2027 World Cup, punished each lapse with the efficiency of a side comfortable under pressure.

A response, but not enough

Canada showed character after the interval. Viens pulled one back with a deflected finish, while Smith reduced the deficit again with a long-range effort. Janni Thomsen had restored Denmark’s two-goal advantage in between.

Coach Casey Stoney offered a similarly frank assessment: “Acho que tivemos alguns momentos ruins hoje, que nos custaram caro.” Her message was clear: Canada’s attacking promise cannot compensate for defensive concentration lapses at tournament level.

The friendly also carried a wider sense of transition. Allysha Chapman reportedly made her 100th and final international appearance, while Jessie Fleming, Buchanan and Lawrence were recognised for reaching 150 caps.

Canada’s next test is the Concacaf Women’s Championship opener against Panama on 28 November. The priority is not a complete overhaul, but a sharper defensive structure: cleaner build-up play, better communication and fewer unforced errors. Against stronger tournament opponents, another open contest could prove far more costly.
