Liverpool Monitor Aston Villa Midfielder Johan Manzambi

Manzambi’s rapid rise at Villa

Manzambi has made an immediate impact since moving from Freiburg. His latest statement performance came in Aston Villa’s 6-0 Champions League win over Fenerbahce, when he opened the scoring, won a penalty and helped create both goals for Ross Barkley.

The display earned him the player-of-the-match award and followed his goal against Tottenham in his first Premier League start. Those contributions have quickly elevated the 21-year-old from a promising signing to an important part of Villa’s midfield plans.

Reports say Villa paid £59.5 million for the Switzerland international, making him the club’s record signing. That investment would make any future approach difficult, particularly if his influence continues to grow.

Why Liverpool are watching

The potential link is tied to uncertainty around Mac Allister, who has reportedly attracted interest from Real Madrid. The Argentina international remains central to Liverpool’s midfield, as demonstrated by his two goals in the recent 4-3 Champions League victory over Villarreal.

Replacing Mac Allister would require more than a like-for-like passer. Liverpool would need a midfielder capable of controlling possession, contributing in the final third and handling the physical demands of Premier League football. Manzambi’s early goals and involvement in decisive moments make him an intriguing candidate, although his development at Villa is still at an early stage.

His international progress has also strengthened the case for closer scrutiny. Manzambi has reportedly scored seven goals in 20 appearances for Switzerland, including goals during the final phase of the World Cup.

Liverpool’s interest is therefore best viewed as a monitoring exercise, not a confirmed pursuit. The next major storyline will be whether Manzambi can sustain his strong start and whether Mac Allister’s links with Real Madrid become a formal transfer situation.
