Trusty’s comments gave a human edge to what can otherwise sound like standard early-season churn.
That matters. Players return from international duty all the time, but not every player comes back carrying both physical fatigue and emotional weight. If the report is accurate, Trusty arrived short on rest, even if not short on training after a demanding summer camp with United States boss Mauricio Pochettino.
For Celtic, the encouraging part is that Trusty did not have to ease his way in. He stepped into the team and, crucially, was alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers, whose return is a major lift.
A settled centre-back pairing changes the feel of a side. Carter-Vickers has long looked like one of the calmest defensive presences in the squad, and Trusty’s comfort next to a familiar international team-mate could become important quickly as the schedule tightens.
The other positive note is Jota. Trusty said he has seen the winger back around training and expects him to be important once fully ready.
That is the sort of update supporters want at this stage of the season. Celtic already look equipped to handle the weekly demands of a title defence, but regaining proven players can raise the ceiling again.
The next question is whether that early resilience turns into momentum. With fixtures coming fast, Celtic will hope Trusty’s hectic summer is behind him - and that the returning names around him can give this side even more balance in the weeks ahead.
