Guimaraes looks like a natural fit for Arsenal’s midfield triangle.
Arteta has often wanted midfielders who can rotate positions without breaking structure. Guimaraes appears ideal for that. He can help Arsenal build through pressure, but he also has the edge to attack second balls and keep attacks alive around the box.
For Martin Zubimendi, if Arsenal still push that route, the picture would be clear: he would profile as the calmer organiser, with Guimaraes giving the midfield more thrust. They are not the same player. Zubimendi is more about rhythm and spacing; Guimaraes is more combative and more willing to break the shape to win the ball or force the next pass.
For Martin Odegaard, this could be a positive. Arsenal’s captain does his best work when he receives early, high and often. A midfield partner who can win duels and feed the right half-space quickly would lighten his build-up burden and leave him fresher in the final third.
The interesting knock-on effect is Myles Lewis-Skelly. Another senior midfield arrival would probably not close his route entirely, but it could reshape it.
