Aalesund made the sharper start and went in front after 13 minutes when Endre Osenbroch finished from Elias Kristoffersen Hagen's assist. Molde responded quickly. Oskar Spiten Nysaeter levelled at 17'54'' with Hestad supplying the pass, and the visitors completed the turnaround on 30'52'' when Hestad found the net after Trent Kone-Doherty set him up. The first-half score left Molde in control at the break.
The second half brought fewer clear breakthroughs but no shortage of incidents. Mats Moller Daehli went into the book late in the first half, and Molde shuffled early after the restart with Samukele Kabini replacing Martin Linnes. A VAR check at 48'16'' ended with no penalty, while further Molde changes followed as Sivert Sira Hansen, Jalal Abdullai, Caleb Zady Sery and Eirik Haugan were all introduced. Abdullai also picked up a yellow card, with Nysaeter cautioned earlier in the half.
Aalesund kept pressing and used their bench in search of an equaliser. Their reward finally came at 90'00'' when Mathias Christensen converted from Syversen's assist to make it 2-2. That late strike changed the final score and ensured the result ended all square after Molde had looked set to take all three points.
