The report says the BDO output index rose from 93.41 in June to 95.29 in July, nudging back above the 95 line that signals expansion.
That rings true for anyone who has watched a major tournament reshape city centres. Football creates occasion spending - and occasion spending travels fast.
The bigger picture, though, is less celebratory. The same report says confidence improved only modestly, from 88.45 to 89.96, after a low point in June.
Industry, meanwhile, appears to have remained under pressure from costs and supply-chain uncertainty. That matters because a recovery built mainly on sunny weekends, bar receipts and short-term buzz is rarely a stable one.
Knight’s second warning was even clearer: “Sem maior clareza sobre as políticas econômicas do governo e uma redução das tensões geopolíticas, qualquer melhora provavelmente será temporária, sazonal e de curta duração.”
Football can light a spark. It cannot, on its own, sustain an economy. The next storyline to watch is whether that July bounce carries into the final stretch of summer - or fades once the weather turns and the tournament glow disappears.
