Emelec struck first after 20 minutes when Ruiz Gomez finished with Pizzini supplying the assist. That breakthrough set the tone for a first half that quickly became scrappy. Guerrico entered the book for the visitors, while Orense collected cautions through Sixto Mina, Gonzalo Martin Rostagno and Velasco. There were also two VAR reviews before the interval, with Miguel Parrales and Rostagno both avoiding a red card.
The biggest turning point came in the 35th minute. Velasco was booked and then dismissed seconds later, leaving Orense a man down before the break. The home side responded with changes, sending on Bryan Quinonez at half-time and later introducing Michael Bermudez, David Alejandro Quintero Culma, Luis Garces and Bryan Vinan as they chased a route back into the contest.
Emelec's task was not straightforward either. Guerrico's yellow-red card in the 58th minute levelled the numbers at 10 against 10, and Cristian Nasuti turned to his bench with Ariel Mina, Jose Cevallos, Stalin Valencia, Sergio Quintero and Luis Fragozo all used. Orense kept pushing, but late bookings for Walter Agustin Herrera, Sergio Vasquez and Jordy Ortiz underlined the frustration. In the table, CS Emelec moved to 12th on 29 points, two ahead of Orense SC.
