Why the early standings may mislead

This is less about panic and more about perspective. Barcelona are the defending champions, Real Madrid remain the most obvious challengers, and Atletico Madrid are again expected to push near the top. None of that changes because of one delayed weekend.

The real shape of the title race should start to emerge when Real Madrid visit Espanyol on 22 August, followed by Barcelona’s trip to Elche on 23 August. Until then, the league table may be accurate on points but incomplete on meaning.
