Liverpool step up Bradley Barcola pursuit from PSG

Why Liverpool are looking there

Liverpool’s need is easy to understand.

  • Mohamed Salah has left at the end of his contract.
  • Hugo Ekitike is reportedly facing a long spell out with an Achilles injury.
  • Cody Gakpo has also been linked with interest from elsewhere, though reports suggest Liverpool do not want to sell.

That leaves a clear shortage across the front line, especially for a club that still needs pace, one-versus-one quality and depth across multiple attacking roles. Reports say Liverpool’s defensive recruitment has moved more quickly, with Ronald Araujo and Victor Munoz already added, but attack remains the bigger hole.

Why PSG’s stance is under scrutiny

PSG’s business has added intrigue. The French champions have brought in Ferran Torres, and reports also point to a forward group already packed with options including Ousmane Dembele, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Desire Doue and Maghnes Akliouche.

That does not confirm Barcola is available. Far from it. But it does create a market question: if competition for minutes tightens, would PSG consider a major sale at the right price?

The major obstacle

The biggest issue is valuation. Reports say PSG rate Barcola at around £145m, a figure that would test Liverpool’s appetite even in a summer of obvious need. Talent is one thing; deal structure is another.

For now, this looks like a story that could define Liverpool’s final weeks of the window. If the price softens, the pursuit may become serious very quickly. If it does not, attention could swing to the next attacking name on the shortlist.
