The update says Derby will have two players on the international stage, with Langas joining goalkeeper Jacob Widell Zetterstrom, who has already been called up by Sweden.
That is a welcome headline for a club that fell just short of the Championship play-offs. It also says plenty about how quickly Langas has risen since arriving from Viking FK and settling into life under John Eustace.
Langas’ inclusion looks even more impressive because it comes straight after his recovery from injury. The defender had been sidelined with a hamstring problem after the game against West Brom in January, then returned after the March international break.
By the run-in, he was back helping Derby stay in the race for the top six until the final day. That made this call-up feel less like a bolt from the blue and more like a reward for timing, resilience and impact.
There was still disbelief, though. “Eu não acreditei no rei nem por um segundo!” Langas joked after the announcement came via a recorded message from the King of Norway.
Langas now heads into a squad featuring elite company, with Martin Odegaard and Erling Haaland among the headline names. Norway open their campaign against Iraq in Boston on 16 June, before further group games against Senegal and France.
For Derby, the next storyline is obvious: how far can their two World Cup representatives go - and what might that mean for the club when pre-season begins again?
