Giovanni Leoni Shares Liverpool ACL Recovery Update

Progress, not a green light

Leoni shared an image from the training centre without adding a comment, but his presence at Kirkby underlines that rehabilitation is continuing on site. A recent report said he remains on schedule to be available when pre-season begins in around a month.

That timetable would represent a significant step after roughly nine months away from competitive football. It does not, however, mean an immediate return to full match intensity. Liverpool are expected to manage his workload carefully as he rebuilds strength, confidence and match sharpness.

For Leoni, the first objective will be consistent training rather than a rapid return to the starting XI.

A pathway in central defence

The timing could prove important for Liverpool. Ibrahima Konate has left, while Joe Gomez offers established cover and Jeremy Jacquet has arrived from Rennes in a reported £60m move.

That change creates an opportunity for Leoni, although it does not remove the need for patience. He has made only one senior appearance for Liverpool, and that promising debut ended with the knee injury in the closing stages.

The early stages of pre-season may offer extra room for him to make an impression. Several senior players are likely to return later because of World Cup involvement, leaving opportunities for squad players and recovering youngsters under new head coach Andoni Iraola.

Leoni’s next milestone will be completing a full block of training and, eventually, returning to friendly action. Liverpool’s first pre-season selections should reveal whether he is being reintegrated into the squad or protected for a slower comeback.
