Alexi Lalas: From US Football Star to Musician

From the United States to the studio

Lalas became one of American football’s most recognizable figures through his work with the United States and LA Galaxy. His distinctive appearance and outspoken personality made him a natural television presence after retirement, but football was never his only creative outlet.

The report says his musical journey began with piano lessons and developed through an early love of garage rock, Van Halen, Def Leppard and the influence of MTV. That foundation eventually led to a solo catalogue reportedly spanning eight albums, beginning with *Far from Close* and later including *Denim*.

The music was not simply a post-football hobby. Lalas reportedly continued recording while still playing at the highest level.

The Gypsies and a football-season album

During his university years at Rutgers, Lalas was part of the band The Gypsies. The group produced and distributed *Woodland* independently during the 1994 World Cup, when Lalas was also part of the United States’ football story.

He later reportedly opened shows for Hootie & the Blowfish during a European tour. That crossover remains unusual: few professional footballers have pursued a serious music career while competing in the sport’s spotlight.

High Voltage on television

That parallel identity reached a new audience through The Masked Singer. Performing as High Voltage, Lalas appeared in a robot costume featuring a football-shaped head - a clue that reportedly escaped the judges.

The update says he reached the show’s ninth week before being eliminated, having outlasted several well-known performers. The appearance gave viewers another look at a side of Lalas that has existed alongside his football career for decades.

His next chapter may again move between the commentary booth and a microphone. For Lalas, the football career opened the door, but music remains part of the story.
