Harrisburg Girls Win Class AA State Championship

Defence set the standard

The report says Harrisburg conceded only four goals all season, an exceptional record that shaped every other part of its campaign.

  • Three consecutive clean sheets preceded the championship match.
  • All four reported goals conceded came against O’Gorman.
  • The Tigers’ only reported defeat was a 3-1 loss to the same opponent on September 29.

That made the final more than a championship fixture. It was a chance to overturn the one result that had exposed a weakness in an otherwise disciplined season. Harrisburg reportedly answered with another three-goal performance, this time without surrendering the result.

Senior trio gave Harrisburg its edge

The Tigers’ defensive foundation was matched by reliable production in the final third. Senior Nyah Aware reportedly led the team with 15 goals, while Auburn Barrett added 11 and Taylor Syverson contributed eight.

That spread matters. Harrisburg did not need to depend on one scorer to carry its attack. Aware supplied the leading threat, but Barrett and Syverson gave the team additional routes to goal and helped turn tight matches into wins.

Recognition beyond the championship

The report also says Harrisburg received 53.04% of the readers’ vote for Team of the Year, placing the Tigers ahead of the other nominated school teams. The award reflects a season that combined a rare defensive record, a championship response and consistent attacking output.

The next storyline is succession. With Aware, Barrett and Syverson identified as seniors, Harrisburg’s challenge will be replacing its leading scorers while preserving the defensive standard that reportedly allowed only four goals.
