Lambton Lions Appoint Sue Tomback and Steve LeBlanc

Continuity with new responsibility

Tomback is entering her third season with Lambton and brings more than two decades of coaching experience. Her work across youth and women’s football gives the Lions a coach with a broad view of player development.

LeBlanc, meanwhile, is entering his 10th season with Lambton. The report says he has moved into the men’s role following Adam Lakey’s departure, having already been part of the wider Lions set-up. His coaching background also includes extensive club and coach-development work in the Sarnia area.

The appointments point to continuity rather than a wholesale reset. Both coaches understand the local player pathway and the demands of the college programme, but they inherit sides that need a clear response immediately.

The scale of the rebuild

Lambton’s women finished 0-9-1 last season, while the men recorded a 0-8-2 campaign. Neither team reached the OCAA play-offs.

Those records leave little room for a slow start. The immediate challenge is to establish defensive consistency, improve results and build belief before the season moves into its decisive stages. For both teams, progress will be measured first by turning close contests and difficult stretches into points.

The report says the coaching changes follow a period of transition, with LeBlanc replacing Lakey after the latter’s long association with the men’s programme. That places added emphasis on how quickly the new leadership group can set expectations.

A demanding first marker

Both Lambton teams are due to open the 2026 OCAA season against Redeemer Royals on 12 September at Lambton College. The fixture will offer an early indication of whether the Lions can move beyond last season’s results.

Tomback and LeBlanc now have the summer to shape their squads and establish a stronger platform. The first priority is straightforward: give Lambton its first winning start to a season in this new chapter.
