The report says the penalty was awarded after Zinedine Doucette fouled Ben Zdziarski inside the area. Whiteman sent his effort into the lower-right corner beyond Ward Bianchi, giving Monument Mountain an early lead.
Bianchi reportedly made four saves, including an acrobatic stop early in the second half after Monument attacked down the left. His performance kept Mount Greylock within reach throughout a match featuring few clear chances.
Whiteman also praised the collective effort, saying, “Sabíamos que precisávamos trabalhar duro. Tínhamos vários jogadores fora por lesão, então foi bom ver os mais jovens dando conta. Todos precisaram ajudar.” The comment underlined the importance of squad depth in a game decided by one incident.
At the other end, the report credits Xavier Hernandez with three saves and a clean sheet. He reportedly denied Mount Greylock early before dealing with pressure late in the contest.
“O jogo foi muito intenso e exigiu muita comunicação. Tivemos uma pequena falta de entendimento no começo, mas conseguimos nos ajustar, fechar os espaços e sair com a vitória,” Hernandez said.
That adjustment became central to Monument Mountain’s success. Once ahead, the team had to protect narrow margins, close spaces and remain composed as Mount Greylock searched for an equaliser.
Monument coach Matt Naventi admitted his side’s possession was below its usual standard, saying, “Precisamos voltar a movimentá-la muito mais rápido.” Mount Greylock coach Chris Kapiloff, meanwhile, said his team had “enfrentamos o Monument de igual para igual por 80 minutos, tirando o pênalti.”
For Monument Mountain, the next challenge will be turning defensive resilience into a more complete attacking performance. Mount Greylock can take encouragement from an even contest - but will need greater cutting edge in its next opportunity.
