Local Athlete of the Week Poll Covers Four Sports

A broader test for the latest nominees

The field reflects the variety of the early autumn schedule. Specialists from each sport are competing for recognition, while two nominees are also reported to have taken part in more than one discipline.

That matters because the poll is not judging one shared role or statistic. It is comparing impact across team sports and endurance competition, with performances assessed against the demands of each athlete’s programme.

Previous winners set a clear trend

The weekly series has already recognised athletes from Aberdeen Central, Britton-Hecla, Deuel and Watertown, according to the update.

  • Keyana Stillman of Aberdeen Central reportedly won the first fall poll for 10-16 August.
  • Jace Rein of Britton-Hecla followed for 17-23 August.
  • Lincoln Schutt of Watertown was selected for 24-30 August.
  • Aidan Sievers of Deuel won the award for 31 August-6 September.
  • Bo Meidinger and Claire Schochenmaier shared the latest award after performances from 7-13 September.

The joint result marked the first time this autumn that the poll had two winners together. Both Watertown athletes compete in girls’ football, and their recognition came after four consecutive individual winners.

The multi-sport factor

The inclusion of multi-sport athletes adds another layer to the vote. Early-season schedules often demand quick recovery between training sessions and competitions, so achievements across disciplines carry a different form of value from a standout performance in one event.

The report says voting remains open until midnight on Saturday, 26 September. The next result will show whether voters continue the recent run of individual winners or again reward more than one athlete.
