Fei Fabiola Garcia: A Multisport Football Prospect

Seattle opportunity

A report says Garcia will represent Southern California Blues 2012 at the Elite Clubs National League championships near Seattle before training with Seattle Reign FC in the Pacific Northwest.

The opportunity offers a valuable look at the next level for a player already attracting professional-club interest. Garcia has reportedly been invited to train with Angel City FC, Bay FC and San Diego Wave FC, although none of those opportunities should be viewed as a confirmed pathway to a professional contract.

She is understood to remain focused on development rather than rushing toward senior football.

More than a football prospect

Garcia’s appeal comes partly from her range. She plays as a striker for Southern California Blues and is also a shortstop and centre fielder for the Corona Angels in softball. She has competed in track and plans to continue as a three-sport athlete at Santa Margarita Catholic High School.

That background could serve her well. Football rewards acceleration, coordination, balance and quick decisions, while baseball and softball can sharpen reactions and athletic movement. Managing those demands, however, will require careful support as her commitments grow.

The importance of patience

Tony Vigil, Angel City’s head of recruitment, has urged patience around Garcia’s progress.

“She’s very good but she’s very grounded, and I think that’s important,” Vigil said.

His message reflects a sensible approach to a young player already receiving significant attention. Garcia’s coaches reportedly praise both her finishing ability and work ethic, but the priority now is giving her the environment to keep improving without turning potential into pressure.

The Seattle training spell should provide the next important test. After that, Garcia’s development across football, softball and school will remain the storyline to watch as she decides which sport ultimately becomes her professional route.
