Leandro Paredes Visits Argentina Training Camp

A connection that has not been broken

Paredes, who plays for Boca Juniors, reportedly visited the camp to greet his international team-mates and observe the squad’s routine. It was a symbolic gesture, but one that reflects his continued attachment to the national team.

The midfielder had already indicated his intention to stop by after Boca’s victory over Racing. “Ainda não falei com o treinador, mas provavelmente vou passar pelo centro de treinamento para dar um oi e ver como estão as coisas. Obviamente, sinto que faço parte do grupo; se não estivesse suspenso, estaria lá”, Paredes said.

That message suggests the player still sees himself as part of Scaloni’s group, even while he waits for eligibility to return.

Scaloni’s condition for a comeback

Scaloni was careful not to promise an automatic recall. “As portas estão abertas. Infelizmente, não poderemos contar com ele nestes jogos. Se estiver neste nível quando puder voltar, será considerado”, the coach said.

That qualification matters. Paredes’ experience, leadership and role in Argentina’s World Cup-winning generation give him a strong foundation, but the competition for midfield places remains intense.

At 32, he appears to understand that reputation alone will not be enough. Maintaining his current form will be central to any return.

The next storyline will emerge when Paredes becomes eligible again. If he sustains his level, Scaloni’s open-door policy could quickly turn this training-ground visit into the first step towards another Argentina comeback.
