Mountain Valley Named Maine Boys Soccer Team of the Week

From struggle to contention

The reported results - a 2-1 win over Maranacook and a 4-3 success against Buckfield - have lifted Mountain Valley to second in Class C South. That position marks a sharp change for a program that has endured difficult seasons.

The update says the Falcons managed only four wins across the previous three seasons, including just one victory last year. Taylor, however, believes those setbacks helped shape the current group.

“Às vezes, é preciso apanhar um pouco antes de chegar aonde você precisa estar”, the coach said.

That resilience has become central to Mountain Valley’s identity. The Falcons appear to be playing with greater belief, while the narrow margins in their recent matches have provided valuable experience in pressure situations.

Expectations are changing

Veteran Cash Provencher said the improved results have changed the mood around the team.

“É muito mais divertido”, Provencher said, describing a campaign that has brought renewed energy to the squad. He also believes opponents are beginning to view Mountain Valley differently.

“Estamos começando a nos tornar um time que os outros não querem enfrentar. As expectativas sobre nós mudaram, e todos estão de olho no futuro.”

That shift in perception can be both reward and challenge. Mountain Valley is no longer simply chasing respect; it is reportedly being measured against the leading teams in the division.

A defining finish

The Falcons’ next major test is expected to come against Hall-Dale, the reigning state champion and current leader, on October 14. Their regular-season finale against Monmouth Academy follows on October 19.

Those fixtures will reveal whether Mountain Valley’s surge is a brief run of form or the beginning of a lasting climb. For now, Taylor and Provencher have helped create belief - and the Falcons have two more chances to prove it.
