Baker has reportedly made 31 appearances for the Sounders across the past four seasons, contributing one assist. The loan should give the Revolution an opportunity to assess the defender over the remainder of the regular season before deciding whether to activate the purchase option.
If New England makes the transfer permanent, the reported financial structure would include $125,000 in General Allocation Money for Seattle. The 2027 first-round pick would then become a 2028 second-round selection, while a further $150,000 in GAM could be due if Baker reaches additional performance targets.
Tierney described the move as a response to a clear squad need, saying, “The arrival of Cody helps us address an area of need while we continue strengthening our roster before the second half of the MLS season.”
That approach makes the deal significant beyond Baker’s individual profile. A loan with conditional terms allows the Revolution to improve their defensive options now while postponing a final decision until the player has experienced the club’s system and the demands of regular MLS football.
The report says New England enter the restart with an 8-5-1 record and 25 points, giving the club a strong reason to reinforce rather than overhaul its squad.
The Revolution have reportedly been without a match since May 23 because of the league pause. Their return against Toronto will offer Baker an immediate chance to compete for involvement, although his role and availability have not been independently confirmed.
The next stage will be his performances during the remaining regular-season schedule. If he establishes himself as a reliable defensive option, New England could decide that the purchase conditions represent worthwhile long-term value.
