The update says Tamarit has taken charge until the end of the season after LAFC made their first in-season coaching change. Marc Dos Santos departed following a difficult spell, with the club reportedly winning only once in their past 10 MLS regular-season matches.
That slump has left LAFC needing a late surge to protect their playoff position. John Thorrington said the club needed “greater clarity”, and Tamarit’s immediate task is to provide it on the pitch.
The interim coach reportedly wants a higher press and greater control in possession. Those ideas will be tested quickly against a Vancouver side that has been one of the conference’s most consistent teams.
LAFC are reportedly without midfielder Timothy Tillman and forward Jeremy Ebobisee, reducing Tamarit’s options in the middle and final third. The availability of key attackers including Son Heung-min and Denis Bouanga should offer a counterweight, but a tactical reset cannot hide every problem.
Vancouver are also expected to be without Thomas Muller because of a hamstring injury. His absence removes experience and creativity, though the Whitecaps still arrive with enough momentum to make LAFC’s opening night under Tamarit a serious examination.
A coaching change can lift energy, but the turnaround must be immediate. LAFC have four remaining regular-season home matches, making this a crucial opportunity to turn BMO Stadium into the foundation of a playoff push.
A strong start against Vancouver would give Tamarit credibility and belief. A defeat, however, could leave LAFC chasing the season rather than shaping it. The first verdict on the new era comes Saturday, when ambition meets urgency in Los Angeles.
