Philadelphia Union vs Real Salt Lake: MLS Playoff Push

Union’s revival under Richter

The report says Philadelphia have won 10 of those unbeaten matches and climbed to sixth in the East after a difficult start led to Bradley Carnell’s departure in late May. With seven games remaining, the Union are reportedly six points above the playoff line.

Their attacking confidence has been central to the turnaround. Milan Iloski is said to have scored six goals in six matches, including a hat-trick in the recent victory over Orlando. Cavan Sullivan has also emerged as a major influence, with the teenager reportedly contributing six goals and eight assists across his last eight appearances.

Real Salt Lake need momentum

Real Salt Lake arrive with a much-needed result behind them. The report says their 3-0 win over New England ended a 10-match winless run in all competitions and moved Pablo Mastroeni’s side closer to the Western Conference playoff places.

Sergi Solans, reportedly the club’s leading scorer with 11 goals, will be central to that push. Salt Lake are also looking for more from summer arrivals Saba Lobjanidze and Dusan Zagar as they cope with changes to the squad and the reported season-ending knee injury suffered by Diego Luna.

A battle for second balls

Mastroeni’s tactical warning was clear: “Eles vão colocar a bola atrás da sua linha defensiva e pressionar”. Philadelphia’s direct approach, long deliveries and aggressive pursuit of second balls could make this a physically demanding contest.

For the Union, the challenge is maintaining focus rather than protecting their unbeaten streak. For Salt Lake, the priority is proving the New England result was the start of a recovery, not an isolated spark. The next chapter in both playoff campaigns begins on Saturday.
