Jefferson Academy has moved quickly from a winless 2023 campaign to a state-final appearance, a semi-final decided by penalties and now a 10-0-2 record.
Their only draws came against Stargate School and Class 4A’s Kent Denver, evidence of a team already comfortable against strong opposition. Senior experience has been central to that development.
Spicer returned after training at CD Castellón’s academy in Spain and believes the Jaguars’ balance is their defining quality.
“Everybody on the field knows their role, and we all play into that role,” Spicer explained. “I think that's what makes us such a strong team.”
Jefferson Academy may lead the conversation, but the wider area has produced contenders in several classifications.
Erie’s unbeaten opening ended with a defeat by Legacy, while Legacy’s run against top-20 opposition has underlined the competitiveness of the classification.
Twin Peaks offers another compelling storyline. The 2A side has improved from 4-11 last season to 6-4-2, led by junior Owen McCracken, who has scored 19 of the team’s 38 goals.
For Jefferson Academy, the next challenge is converting regular-season dominance into a championship run. The Jaguars’ final three matches will test their consistency before the state tournament provides the clearest measure of how far this remarkable rise can go.
