The report says Watertown moved up one position after opening the season with a perfect 14-0 record. Its rise adds another Section III leader alongside Baldwinsville, which has also won all 14 of its matches in Class AAA.
The unbeaten list extends well beyond Section III. Rye, Our Lady of Lourdes and Mount Academy are all reportedly perfect in Class A, while Carle Place and Cobleskill-Richmondville remain unbeaten in Class B.
Section III’s strength is not limited to its two leading teams. The report says 16 Section III programs appear somewhere in the six-class statewide rankings, with representation in every classification.
Utica Proctor reportedly climbed to third in Class AAA after posting a 12-2-2 record. West Genesee sits fifth in Class AA at 12-2, while New Hartford, Jamesville-DeWitt, Skaneateles, Westhill and Clinton are among the other section teams making progress or entering the list.
The movement is significant because it combines elite records with upward momentum. Cicero-North Syracuse reportedly rose from 18th to 16th in Class AAA, while Jamesville-DeWitt entered the rankings tied for 20th in Class A.
The report says no Section III team dropped out of the rankings this week, underlining the section’s unusual depth. Watertown’s new position will draw the most attention, but maintaining an unbeaten record brings a different challenge: every opponent now has a target.
The next weekly update will reveal whether Watertown can hold the Class AA lead, whether Baldwinsville can preserve its perfect run and which of Section III’s rising teams can turn ranking movement into a deeper postseason push.
