Jayda Aiello's Golden Goal Lifts Westmoreland 2-1

Aiello delivers at the decisive moment

The report says West Canada Valley took an early lead through Brooke Reddington and held that advantage until Jacqueline Downs brought Westmoreland level midway through the second half.

Neither team reportedly found a breakthrough in the first overtime period. Aiello then settled the contest in the second extra period, completing a performance that Gifford praised for its intensity and versatility.

“She put in a lot of work in the off-season,” Gifford said. “She runs the full 80 minutes up and down the field when we need her and can play pretty much any offensive position that we get.”

Bulldogs building belief

The reported win would extend Westmoreland’s run to eight victories in nine matches, a striking turnaround after an uneven start to the campaign. The Bulldogs are said to have entered the contest with a 10-3-1 record, while West Canada Valley stood at 12-3-1.

That contrast underlines the quality of the matchup. West Canada Valley’s goalkeeper Mikayla Synakowski reportedly made seven saves, while Westmoreland goalkeeper Lilyana Neuman stopped six shots.

“She’s been knocking at the door the last couple games to get a goal,” Gifford explained. “She really came through when we needed her.”

The victory also reflects a wider belief growing within Westmoreland’s squad. Gifford said the players are connecting better, trusting their ability and benefiting from the work invested throughout the season.

The next test reportedly comes when Westmoreland hosts Herkimer on Friday. That fixture will offer another measure of whether Aiello’s late breakthrough can propel the Bulldogs into the Class C tournament with their recovery still gathering pace.
