MLS Partners With Baton on New Football Film Project

MLS moves beyond matchday

A report says MLS has formed a strategic marketing partnership with *Baton*, which is currently in post-production. The proposed collaboration would give the film access to the league’s marketing ecosystem, creating a direct route to soccer audiences across the United States and Canada.

That is a logical move for MLS. The league’s growth has never been limited to attendance or broadcast exposure; it has also been about building a broader identity around the sport. A film partnership offers another way to make soccer part of everyday conversation, particularly among younger fans and audiences who may not yet follow a club closely.

A football story with personal stakes

*Baton* reportedly follows a player attempting to rebuild his career after being removed from his college team. Sent back to Miami, he works towards the MLS College Showcase while dealing with a family dispute over his mother’s legacy.

That premise gives the project more weight than a conventional sports drama. The football pathway is central, but the story also appears designed around rejection, identity and second chances.

Seth Bacon, MLS executive vice-president of media, described the film as a story about “passion, resilience, and sense of community”. Those themes are familiar to players and supporters, but they also travel well beyond football.

Beckham adds another connection

The report also says David Beckham is an executive producer through Studio 99. His reported involvement would give *Baton* another link to the sport, with Beckham remaining one of the most recognisable figures in MLS history.

The next test will be the film’s release campaign. With *Baton* still in post-production, MLS will be hoping the partnership can turn a football story into a wider cultural event-and bring new viewers closer to the game.
