Napoli's One-Striker Plan Could Leave Lukaku in Limbo

One role, two established forwards

The report says Allegri’s early work at Napoli has focused on systems with a lone striker. That would favour Hojlund, whom Napoli reportedly bought outright for more than €40 million, and leave Lukaku competing for a role that may not suit his ambitions.

There is a possible alternative: Allegri has used a 3-5-2 during his career, a shape that can accommodate two forwards. But that option is not guaranteed to be part of his plans, and Napoli also have wingers to fit into the team. Until the system is clear, Lukaku’s place remains uncertain.

The cost of a move

The financial picture could make a departure complicated. The report puts Lukaku’s gross salary at about €11 million and says Napoli value him at €10 million to €12 million. It also says the club’s proposal to extend his contract and spread the wage cost was rejected.

Those figures create a narrow path to a deal: Napoli would want to protect its valuation, while a buyer would need to take on a substantial salary. Saudi Arabia and MLS are mentioned as possible destinations, but neither amounts to a confirmed option.

The next step is for Napoli, Allegri and Lukaku to clarify whether there is a role worth staying for-or a market willing to meet the club’s expectations. As talks reportedly approach, the tactical plan may determine whether the gap can be bridged.
