You have to feel for Juninho Bacuna.
The young Huddersfield Town player shanked his clearance to score in his own net in a contender for the most spectacular own goal of all time.
Playing in his first game for the Premier League club, he put an exclamation mark on Huddersfield’s Carabo Cup defeat to Stoke City with the accidental 50-yard lob.
The Terriers were losing 1-0 with just seconds left when Bacuna tried to volley the ball back upfield. Huddersfield’s goalkeeper Jonas Lossl was already well off of his line – and the ball sailed over his head and bounced into the empty net.
Along with the 50-yard own goal, fans were also treated to another collector’s item with a goal from Stoke striker Saido Berahino whose last strike came for West Brom in February 2016, a run that stretches back 913 days and 47 games.
