Dropping Manchester City winger Leroy Sané from the Germany squad on the eve of the World Cup seemed pretty crazy at the time after his brilliant Premier League season.
Now manager Joachim Löw’s decision has come back to haunt him as his team follows outcast Sané on the plane home to Germany.
The 1-0 loss to South Korea left the 2014 champions rock bottom of Group F – and the manager red-faced at leaving Sané out, preferring Bayer Leverkusen striker Julian Brandt.
“That was a very close decision between him and Julian Brandt, which was made in favor of Brandt. Draxler, Reus and Müller are set. Leroy has a huge talent,” said Löw, justifying his decision.
