Gabriela Kuruc Named Girls Soccer Player of the Year

A scorer for the biggest moments

Kuruc’s postseason form helped carry Lemont through a deep state run, with the report highlighting several decisive performances:

  • She reportedly scored both goals in a 2-1 sectional final win over Providence.
  • She then added two goals and an assist in a 3-1 supersectional victory against Geneva.
  • Lemont finished with a reported 22-3-1 record after a long unbeaten stretch.

The team’s only defeats came at the beginning and end of the campaign, according to the report. Kuruc missed the opening loss to Marist before helping Lemont build momentum and belief.

A farewell bigger than football

The season carried extra weight because coach Rick Prangen and longtime assistant Mark Tomczak were stepping away. Prangen reportedly ended a 32-season spell with the girls team after also leading Lemont’s boys side for 34 seasons.

The report says Prangen viewed Kuruc as more than a reliable scorer, praising her quickness, technical ability, physicality and commitment to training. Her performances gave the coaching staff the extended farewell the players wanted.

The next chapter

Lemont is expected to return several important players, including Kuruc and freshman forward Madison Weil, who reportedly scored 25 goals. Alumna Jenny Earnest is set to take over as head coach, creating a new chapter after one of the programme’s most emotional seasons.

The next challenge will be sustaining the standards Prangen and Tomczak established while turning a memorable state run into a genuine title push.
