The report says Liverpool have consulted Roma about a possible future move for Manu Koné, while Chelsea remain interested after failing to secure the French midfielder before the summer deadline.
Any move appears to be a longer-term possibility rather than an imminent deal. Liverpool reportedly did not add a replacement after midfield departures, leaving Iraola with a squad that may need greater physical presence and progressive passing in the centre.
Roma’s position has been clear. Sporting director Tony D’Amico said: “Eu disse que seria difícil para nós abrir mão de jogadores importantes tão perto do fim da janela, e foi isso que aconteceu. Koné é um jogador importante; estamos felizes por ele ter permanecido”.
That stance does not rule out a future transfer, but it underlines why Liverpool could face strong competition if they return to the market.
Liverpool are also said to have monitored Lamine Camara of Monaco for some time. Chelsea reportedly explored a deal for the midfielder during the summer, meaning Liverpool could again face a battle for a player viewed as a potential long-term solution.
Koné and Camara offer different profiles, but both would address the same broad need: more energy, mobility and authority in midfield.
Liverpool’s start has been uneven, despite a reported Champions League victory over Atlético Madrid. The draw with Fulham exposed attacking limitations, with Iraola acknowledging that the team struggled to create enough.
