Kelsey Clousing Named Girls Football Player of the Year

From creator to main threat

Clousing’s rise has been gradual rather than sudden. As a sophomore, she had already established herself as a creator, but the departure of Ashlyn Adams to Illinois left a larger share of the attacking responsibility on her shoulders.

The report says Clousing responded by becoming more dangerous close to goal. Coach Guy Callipari reportedly praised her one-on-one ability, movement around the box and instinct for reaching loose balls first. Her persistence was just as important as her finishing, with Callipari pointing to a sequence against Naperville Central in which she continued the move after being knocked down.

That resilience became a defining part of her season. Wheaton Warrenville South also reportedly set a programme record for goals, with Clousing leading the way.

A team-first achievement

Despite the individual recognition, Clousing has reportedly placed the emphasis on the squad’s togetherness. She has played alongside several team-mates since park-district football, giving the Tigers’ run a strong sense of continuity.

Her athletic background extends beyond football. Clousing reached the third round of the state tennis tournament in doubles, and she believes the sport’s movement demands have helped sharpen her work on the pitch. That blend of coordination, balance and competitiveness appears to have strengthened her attacking game.

College decision to come

Clousing is reportedly still uncommitted but expects to make a college decision soon. Her next step will bring new tactical demands and a higher level of physical competition, but the traits highlighted this season - persistence, adaptability and close-range instincts - should travel well.

The next storyline is whether her college choice can provide the platform for another leap, following a season that has already changed her standing in the local game.
